How we handle information when you use Islamic Insights — the website and our mobile apps. We keep this clear so you know what to expect, and we share it openly because you deserve to know where you stand with us.

Who this covers

This policy applies to islamic-insights.com and the Islamic Insights apps for Android and iOS. The service is free, ad-free, and never asks for payment information.

What we collect

We gather only what helps us run the service:

  • Account: email address and a securely hashed password if you create an account, plus codes used to verify email or reset a password.
  • Session cookies: to keep you signed in and to recognise a basic analytics session.
  • Usage analytics: pages viewed, general interaction events, approximate region (from our host), a hashed form of your IP address, and browser or app details — so we can understand how the product is used and keep it reliable.
  • Islamic Assistant chat: messages you send and replies you receive, so conversations can work and we can improve the experience. Messages may be processed by a third-party AI provider to generate answers. We do not use chat content for advertising.
  • Quran progress: if you are signed in, reading position, bookmarks, and related progress may sync to your account so they follow you across devices.
  • On-device preferences: theme, language, prayer calculation settings, tasbih counts, reciter choice, and similar choices may stay in local storage on your device.
  • Technical details: ordinary server logs needed to deliver pages securely (for example browser type and connection metadata).

How we use it

Your information supports the features you use: maintaining your account, personalising tools like prayer times and Quran reading, answering assistant questions, finding nearby masjids, sending verification or password-reset emails, protecting the service from abuse, and improving reliability. We look at usage in aggregate so we can fix issues thoughtfully — not to build marketing profiles.

Location & notifications

Location is optional. When you allow it, your device GPS (or a city you enter) is used for prayer times, Qibla direction, and nearby masjids. Location is requested for those features only. Recent location preferences may be kept on your device so the tools work more smoothly next time.

Prayer reminders on the mobile apps are scheduled locally on your device after prayer times load. They do not require us to push messages from our servers, and you can turn them off in the app or in system settings.

How we share information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. There are no ads on Islamic Insights, and we have no interest in building advertising profiles from your activity.

To operate the service we rely on trusted infrastructure — for example hosting, databases, email delivery, and AI providers that process chat messages to generate replies. Those parties receive only what is needed to perform their role for us, not for their own marketing.

We may also share information if required by law, or to protect the security and integrity of the service. If our approach ever changes in a meaningful way, we will update this page.

Retention & your choices

Account data is kept while your account remains active. Analytics events and chat history are retained as needed to run and improve the service. On-device preferences stay on your device until you clear app or browser storage.

You can use many tools without an account. You can deny location or notification permission and still enter a city manually for prayer times. You may request access to or deletion of account-related data by contacting us (see below).

Children

Islamic Insights includes educational content that families may use together. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 for commercial purposes. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will help remove it.

Contact & account deletion

To delete your account or ask what information we hold, email us and we will help. We take these requests seriously and respond personally.
